Borroloola School, Borroloola, NT

School statement
Borroloola School is located in the township of Borroloola, 850km southeast of Darwin. The population is approximately 1000. There are four main clans: Garrawa, Mara, Yanyuwa and Gurdanji. The two main languages are Yanyuwa and English. Borroloola can be accessed by a sealed bitumen road all year round or via air through regular passenger transport flights. Borroloola School provides education to students from preschool to middle years. The school is also responsible for the Gulf Group School (Kiana and Robinson River Schools) as well as the Homeland Learning Centre at Wandangulla, 20km east of Borroloola. Wandangulla is accessible by road in the dry season only. Borroloola School has an extensive attendance plan that focuses on the active engagement of students. In recruiting new staff, the school actively targets young enthusiastic people who are motivated about working with Indigenous students. Borroloola has been identified as a Territory Growth Town (TGT) under the NT Government's A Working Future initiative. TGTs will become towns with comparable services to other country towns in Australia.
