Mamaruni School, Minjilang (Croker Is), NT

School statement
Mamaruni School is located in the community of Minjilang, on Minjilang Island 220km northeast of Darwin. The population is approximately 300 and there are four main Indigenous language groups on the island with the dominant language being Iwaidja. The island can be accessed via regular passenger air services. Mamaruni School is part of the Top End Group School and provides education to students from preschool to middle years. The composition of the Indigenous student population is varied and is a direct reflection of the island's post-European contact history. Indigenous staff selected from all language and cultural groups support the programs offered by the school. A nutrition program continues throughout the year to help encourage children to attend school and to improve learning. Visit the school website.
