School statement
Murputja Anangu School has a core focus across the curriculum on literacy and numeracy, as almost all students speak Pitjantjatjara or Yankuntjatjara as a first language, and only speak English at school. Learning to read write and speak English is an urgent priority with Accelerated Literacy being the central teaching strategy for achieving this. Pitjantjatjara literacy is also taught as a subject in its own right. Because of the school's social/cultural context, there is a strong emphasis on behaviour learning and the physical, social and emotional wellbeing of all students. Due to the small size of the school it is possible to have a school wide team approach to teaching. Information and Communication Technology (ICT) is given a high priority and is integrated into the teaching/learning methodologies in all curriculum areas. An ongoing Artist in Schools program ensures immersion in a range of arts including music, visual arts and dance. The school also runs a Child Parent Centre, with parents/carers encouraged to have their children attending from three years old. Visit the school website.
