School statement
Roebourne District High School, in the town of Roebourne, has a student population of mostly Aboriginal students. The School caters for Kindergarten to Year 12. The Aboriginal people in the town are largely from 3 language groups: the Nguluma people, in whose country the town is situated along with Yindjibarndi and Bunjuma people. There are also smaller numbers of Aboriginal people from other areas. The community have a desire to be strong in spirit, grounded in a strong culture. The school strives to encourage and nurture this spirit. The community is involved in the school, not only through Language and Culture but also with wider community consultation meetings. The Strong Men and Strong Women's groups are invited to the school to talk to students. Attendance strategies to improve student engagement are a key driver for programs. Engaging students in learning has the most significant impact on student attendance and behaviour. Staff at Roebourne who gain most satisfaction from their placement are those who enjoy a challenge, are prepared to push their boundaries and are flexible and with a desire to learn. Visit the school website.
