Dawul Remote Community School, Kununurra, WA

School statement
Dawul Remote Community School is located 100km southwest of Kununurra on the Great Northern Highway in the Kimberley region of Western Australia. It is situated on Doon Doon Station, an Aboriginal owned cattle station of approximately one million acres. The population of Doon Doon varies, with an average of 40 adults and 35 children. The school has a 100% Aboriginal student population. Most students and community members speak Kimberley Kriol, and the adults are competent SAE speakers. The community is supportive of the school and is actively involved in school decision making. Often families will travel between nearby communities. Consequently, truancy is not a problem but itinerancy is. The school caters for students ranging from early kindergarten to year 12. The school community encourages high school students to attend larger centres or boarding school, but does cater for those who are unable to go away. We embrace a 'strong and deadly' ethos and are very proud of our Woolah Culture. Visit the school website.
