School statement
Ngalapita RCS commenced on December 1, 2003. The name for the school comes from a near-by billabong. The community has 11 houses, an office, a small store, a power plant and a reverse osmosis water treatment plant. The community is on Kalyeeda Station. A 900m airstrip is available most of the year. There are no other support services available in the community and members travel to Fitzroy Crossing, 190km to the north-east, or Derby, 260km to the north -west to access essentials such as medical, policing, commercial and retail services. Ngalapita is an ESL primary school. Students are multilingual, speaking Kriol, Walmajarri and other Aboriginal Languages. All students are taught in Standard Australian English. Students are taught to code switch. The school uses the Aboriginal Literacy Strategy for its literacy program. In 2005 the school was named the Premier's Reading School of the Year. As a result of these educational initiatives and programs there has been significant improvement in educational outcomes for students. Ngalapita RCS takes great pride in the safe and caring learning environment it offers its students. Visit the school website.
