Long Street Primary School, Whyalla Norrie, SA

School statement
Long Street Primary School is located in the regional city of Whyalla, which is a major service centre to the fishing, mining, tourism and steel-making industries. Our student population mainly comprises of families with an Anglo-European or Aboriginal heritage. Our key curriculum priorities are literacy, numeracy, science and student wellbeing. 'Program Achieve' is a whole school focus and provides a framework for social skill development and values education. Specialist teaching areas are health and PE. The 'Drug Strategy' and 'Healthy Lifestyles' form part of our core curriculum, and we are part of the 'Eat Well Be Active' program. This focus is further enhanced by our whole school daily fitness program. Extra-curricular activities include a range of interschool sports where we have regularly performed with distinction, leading to many of our students going on to compete at State level. Opportunities also exist for our students to participate in a range of performing arts activities with the Whyalla Combined Primary Schools Choir and the 'Gidja Festival' being the highlights. Visit the school website.
