HVGS is non-denominational and caters for boys and girls from Preschool to Year 12.

Our sport program nurtures outstanding athletes in all fields. We currently have students competing at a national level in swimming and athletics. The school offers the Elite Athlete Program to enable athletes to reach their optimum in sport and maintain academic studies.
We have a dynamic and committed Leo Club, with more than 50 members who are constantly raising awareness and funds for local and global charities.The school's cultural endeavours include an Annual Art Exhibition (Inspired) which attracts artists from all over Australia, in 2016 $15,000.00 in prize money is on offer. Opening Night includes a wonderful concert of outstanding performances from our small ensembles and musicians. The evening is a favourite for both music and art enthusiasts.Each year HVGS host's the Hunter Region Independent Schools Cultural Festival where schools from all over the Hunter Area collaborate to produce a brilliant concert for families and friends.
