Ripponlea PS is located in East St Kilda and has 15 equivalent full-time staff and 6.9 education support staff. We are an inclusive and supportive school where mutual respect, self-responsibility, self-accountability and teamwork are the norm. Our philosophy and practices are based on the belief that parents and families have the first and most enduring impact on the learning and development, health, safety and wellbeing of their child/ren. We believe all children can learn and become effective life-long learners.
Ripponlea PS offers a rich and extensive Victorian Curriculum with literacy and numeracy central to all learning. School NAPLAN data consistently demonstrates the schools performance above the state and similar to "similar schools" as a comparison, indicating that our students make strong learning gains. Ripponlea continues to ensure that all students are challenged to achieve their personal best and at their point of need. Strategies to increase the relative growth of Writing from Year 3 to Year 5 has seen the introduction of the VCOP framework and more holistic approaches in all literacy practices. All teaching teams across the school work collaboratively to assess, plan and deliver a highly engaging and relevant curriculum, utilising transdisciplinary approaches during inquiry learning, embedding ICT elements and a strong emphasis on differentiation. Focus on digital design, computational and thinking skills aims to build capacity in STEM education. Class and specialist teachers provide students with explicit learning intentions and success criteria to link the purpose and outcome of the self-directed or teaching activities presented. Teachers support students to set academic goals, student portfolios are used to track progress and from Foundation, students showcase their achievements and articulate their learning with confidence.
Our parents are keen, creative, dedicated and proactive. They value education and have high expectations of the school's academic provision. Our students benefit from having teachers with a range of different experiences and skills working together in teams to support the learning of all students. The school community is privileged to enjoy high student achievement, well-behaved and focussed students and a skilled and enthusiastic team of teaching and non-teaching staff. School Council, its Committee structure and the Ripper Families group are committed to the environment and sustainability and strive to provide an innovative 21st Century learning and teaching environment.
