We aim: to provide students with a sense of self-worth and willingness to accept responsibility for their own actions; to help students recognise their own strengths and to provide experiences that enhance and develop these; to develop within students a concern for, and understanding of, others and a respect for individual differences; to provide and maintain an attractive, safe and caring learning environment. Our values are: the personal and academic development of students as individuals; excellence in teaching; worthwhile innovation in curriculum and teaching practice; the spirit of optimism and collegiality; pastrol care as a means of fostering student development, both personal and academic. The school recognises and provides for the needs, differences and potential of individual students through a dynamic and rich learning environment. The school makes provision for optimal individual student development by operating a multi-level timetable that permits maximum flexibility and choice. There is a strong focus on literacy and numeracy and students have access to a wide range of subjects with specialist teachers and specialist facilities. Our Pastoral Care Program is an integral part of Sanderson. Students are placed in a Pastoral Care Group managed by their Pastoral Care Teacher. As often as possible, students remain in the same PCG for years 7,8 and 9, creating a strong, supportive and friendly atmosphere in which students feel comfortable learning about themselves and others. Unique programs at the school include Targeted Boys and Girls programs, Intensive English Program and Clontarf Academy. The Intensive English Unit caters to approximately 130 students who require intensive English language tuition. The school benefits greatly from its ties to the community and various community organisations.
