Wulagi Primary School opened on 19/10/78 and is located 18kms from Darwin's CBD in the northern suburb of Wulagi. The school has an open plan design with the library as the central hub. The school population fluctuates between 180-200 students from Preschool to Year 6. Our students are in 8 composite/multilevel classes spanning two year range. the preschool has 2 classes that attend a full day program for 5 days per fortnight. The student population is diverse with over 15 nationalities represented from Asian, South Pacific, African and European countries. 35% of our students are indigenous. There are 60 identified ESL students who work with the ESL specialist teacher and a further 26 students with identified Special Education Needs. A Nemarluk satellite class operates on site for 3 days per week which caters for students with high support needs. The core values of the school are: Fairness, Honesty, Respect, Compassion and Responsibility. The staff are committed to improving the educational outcomes and wellbeing of all students and this is supported through the Tribes TLC process and KidsMatter. Wulagi Primary has a whole school approach to literacy and numeracy using First Steps, Magic 100 Words, Guided Reading and Count Me In To maths. QuickSmart maths is being trialled for middle primary school students. Year 6 students are engaged in the Japanese Language Program with Sanderson Middle School. All students from Preschool to Year 6 are taught Indonesian Bahasa language and ICT. Extracurricular activities include Balinese Dancing, Wheelchair Basketball, Garden Club, Early Childhood Perceptual Motor Program, Cross Country Running, Instrumental Music Program, Junior and Senior Choirs. The Year 5/6 students engage in a Biennial Parliamentary excursion to Canberra each even year. Wulagi Primary school is a Charles Darwin university Teaching School.
