Maningrida School is located in the community of Maningrida, 550km east of Darwin. The population is approximately 2700, fluctuationg with seasonal and ceremonial activity. Seven main languages are spoken in the area, predominantly Ndjebbana, Burrara, Nakara, Kunwin'ku, Gurrgoni, Rembarrnga and Jinang. English is spoken to various degrees of proficiency. The Kunibidji are the traditional owners on the land where Maningrida is located. Road access via 4WD is only possible in the dry season. Maningrida can also be accessed via regular passenger air transport services and has an all weather airstrip. Maningrida School offers education to students from early years through to senior years as well as providing education services to twelve Homeland Learning Centres (HLCs) which are varying distances from Maningrida with varied accessibility (often seasonal). Significant work is being undertaken by the school in regards to community engagement and vocational education and training. The school is a SSABSA registered school and has successful NT Certificate of Education completers each year. Maningrida has been identified as a site under the National Partnership Agreement on Remote Service Delivery, as well as a Territory Growth Town under the NT Government's A Working Future initiative.
